My Idea of Happiness (Part II)

Around 17 months back, I had written about my idea of happiness. But then, in these 17 months, the earth has spun 518 times and many things on it have changed. For instance, America changed from Bush to Obama, Bollywood changed from masala to action, from action to fiction, Kareena changed her boyfriend, Dhoni changed his hairstyle, Adnan Sami his lifestyle etc. So with the world around me changing, I too have changed a little. From a crazy blog-o-phillic teen, to a little more mature, busy, more so, lazy management student, my ideas of happiness have also undergone a few changes rather a few additions. Now, Happiness is a comprehensive term characterized by rarity.

A drastic change is that, like a good management student, I can now almost define happiness as if it were some management principle. Not that I am really happy about it; definitions are entirely too pointless anyways!

Right now, Happiness means the absence of exams! Until a few days ago, exams had become an ‘activite quotidienne’; something as regular as waking up in the morning, brushing teeth and bathing. So when a professor declared an exam, making a face as though he exploded a bomb in our ears, we felt like saying, ‘tell us something new dude!’ Last month we went so far as to celebrate a ‘no-exam’ day like a valentine or friendship day.

Exams apart, Happiness is the fun in bunking lectures to watch Imran Khan’s movie. Be it a dreary and unexciting one, it is no less a treat to watch a muscular Imran Khan for three hours!

A delicious happiness also lies in the taste of the Pani Puri that you relish with your friends at the Bhayyaji’s roadside chat corner. (In Mumbai, if you don’t put aside hygiene and calories norms to enjoy these delicacies then you are missing something really worth it!)

Quite recently, I discovered a new implication of happiness. The other day, my friends casually complimented me on my (as they call it) ‘new look’. Not being used to such compliments I dismissed it almost instantly while in the heart of hearts I was flattered! So the moral of the story is, Happiness is also the mixed feeling of surprise and joy when people unexpectedly admire you!

So these were some of my ideas of happiness (will keep adding more as and when I discover them). I would love it if you share your ideas of happiness too!

P.S. - Thanks For reading! Do read the post My Idea Of Happiness (Part I) also.
Happy Reading!

-KETKI

loved your post on happiness.it takes so many different things to make people happy, what makes one person happy will not necessarily make the other person happy.I like how you make the quotes flow by.how did you do t.I think its awesome.

Recently, in a modest hut-like house, I saw hung a calendar with a quote that went - 'Very little is needed to make life happy'. Since then, I often think of it when I feel things aren't quite hunky dory. Pleasantly, your post reminds me of that calendar.

Also, since you asked us to share, I'd add that it was all happiness for me to see a comment come up on an otherwise deserted blog, as deserted as a big-screen showcase of a flop TV soap.

Hi ketki thanks so much for dropping by my page and i am happy to note you are following my blog. It was really a happy feeling. As we grow certainly the notions and views of happienss will change. Now i have a notion that happiness is an illusion. yet the illusionneed to be pursued to feel happy. i have a poem on pursuit of happiness published in a paper. i have the copy . i would like to share where do i send.

Hi Ketki!

To tell you the truth, I cannot comment anything about "MY" idea of happiness.
I have come to believe that it keeps changing, as we grow up.
{Your post says you agree too]
There are things that make me happy at times and those same things frustrate me at other times.

We humans expect too much, unfortunately, from others.
When we start expecting from ourselves and try to come up to the mark, perhaps then we can be really happy about something.

There are few things in my life that always make me smile, even during sad times.
Standing at the window, watching the silent road, absorbing the silence of the night is one of those things.
Writing gives me immense pleasure, which I cannot express in words. I do it for myself. If someone gives me money and asks me to write, I would perhaps not be able to write it for the sake of writing until I really feel like writing.

I guess, this much is enough for a comment *lol*

"Happiness is a myth that was invented to make us buy things." -- Shantaram

Actually, what makes one happy changes as our age progresses. As a kid, material things made me very happy. Today, realising that they are merely material things, I try to wean away from them .. only to realise that pursuing them is easier..
My Idea of Happiness... I don't know what makes me happy.. real happiness is that one moment that makes you smile even after a year when reminded of...

I liked the article... reminds me of when I went to college.. For me at this stage in life.. I'd define happiness as "being satisfied". Calm, peaceful surroundings with nothing to worry about. If we could spend a portion of the day, making someone happy, it could be anything from donating clothes to an orphan to cleaning up our own homes to create that comfortable environment that we'd treasure after a long day at work. Happiness could be the moment when you are cooking for the family but also dancing for a up-beat song on the cd player :) with your kids.. Being grateful to god about the life we have and being completely satisfied. Also being honestly and genuinely happy for someone else, if they are doing better than yourself..in any of the aspects.
